Oklahoma car insurance requirements

Every driver in Tulsa must have insurance before driving.  The state requires minimum levels of the following coverage1:

  • Bodily injury liability: Pays for injuries to others in an accident caused by you.
    • Minimum requried: $25,000 for bodily injury of one person per accident, and $50,000 for bodily injury of all people per accident
  • Property damage liability: Helps pay for damage to property of others in an accident caused by you.
    • Minimum requried: $25,000 per accident

The following insurance types are optional; Oklahoma insurers are legally required to offer them, but drviers are allowed to reject both.

  • Underinsured motorist protection: Covers physical and property damage resulting from an accident with another driver who has some auto insurance, but not enough to cover costs of the accident.
  • Uninsured motorist protection: Covers physical and property damage resulting from an accident with another driver who has no auto insurance.

Other coverage to consider

Car insurance isn't a one-size-fits-all solution. We offer the following additional coverage to drivers living in Oklahoma, and we provide continuous support as your needs change:

  • Collision coverage: Helps pay for car repairs after an accident. This includes accidents with other drivers, but can also extend to solo accidents—if you hit a tree or mailbox, for example.
  • Comprehensive coverage: Covers car repairs for damage caused by events other than collisions, such as theft, vandalism, weather and natural disasters, etc.
  • Medical payments coverage (MedPay): Helps pay medical costs if you or your passengers are injured in an accident, regardless of fault.
