In 1928, many young men were losing interest in taking over the family farm. So 33 students from 18 states gathered in Kansas City, Missouri, to form the Future Farmers of America, or FFA. The mission was simple: help young people develop leadership skills, increase confidence, and revive the pride in farming.
In the nearly 100 years since then, FFA continues to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education. While our schools help form chapters and promote FFA activities, members also depend on their communities to provide first-hand experience and education.
While many schools have an FFA Alumni program to assist students, several companies have also formed alumni chapters to offer experience. One of the latest companies to join the alumni network is us! COUNTRY Financial, along with our family of companies, including Illinois Farm Bureau, GROWMARK and the IAA Credit Union, have a goal to help support agricultural education, strengthen the FFA in our communities, and promote a greater knowledge of the agriculture industry.
Through our FFA Alumni group, we nowhave a great opportunity to reach further into our communities to share our experience and expertise with local FFA chapters, and help these young individuals as they continue to place themselves ahead of the crowd.
Whether you participated in FFA in high school or not, these young leaders can benefit from your knowledge and experience. Contact your local school to see about joining an alumni group, or you can visit FFA.org/support/alumni to learn more about how you can get involved.
I’ve been elected to serve as our group President, so you can also contact me with questions in the comment section below and I’ll be happy to respond!
