Walking the path to a cleaner community

Quick question: would you rather spend a warm summer day working in the office, or clad in jeans and a t-shirt enjoying the sunshine with your friends? Oh yeah, in the second scenario, you’re taking a small step to help your community.

No brainer, right? At least employees from the COUNTRY Financial Home Office in Bloomington, Illinois think so. In fact, trail clean-up on our local Constitution Trail has become one of the most desirable activities through the COUNTRY Volunteer Network, with close to 125 employees annually taking to the trail at various times from May through October. It’s an activity that has brought employees closer to our community for over 10 years.

According to volunteer Taylor Shear, “It's really nice to get outside during the work day and help clean up the community." Volunteer Mary Shear added, "One of our favorite things about moving to Bloomington-Normal has been living so close to the Constitution Trail. It is great to be able to give back to the community and help take care of something that we use so often and value greatly."

The COUNTRY Volunteer Network gives our employees the opportunity to join a group of civic-minded colleagues and help support programs and events that improve our community. Members are responsible for proposing, planning and coordinating community volunteer activities. COUNTRY Financial employees spend an average of over 8000 hours annually volunteering in our communities, from trail clean-up to working at homeless shelters to helping prepare shipments at the local food bank. Getting a volunteer group together is a fun and fulfilling way to improve your surroundings. We would love to hear how you’re getting involved!
