When it comes to building or buying a home, what attracts people to certain areas? Quality schools, location, neighborhood amenities, and the list goes on. Recently, that list has started including agriculture.
You read that right. The latest development trend called, agrihoods, have started popping up across the U.S.
Essentially, agrihoods are neighborhoods that surround acreage dedicated to a working farm. Agrihood community members have access to organic food right from their own “backyards,” taking the farm-to-table movement to a whole new level.
People may be attracted to agrihoods for a few reasons
- They know where their food is coming from
- It forms close-knit relationships in their community
- They feel good about using land and water responsibly
Homes in agrihoods tend to be above the average home price, sometimes up to five times more expensive than nearby homes. And, some skeptics say less wealthy people would benefit more from this kind of access to organic food. Despite some of the controversy that may come with agrihoods, the trend doesn’t appear to be slowing down.
While it’s not clear how many agrihoods exist in the world, it is a growing trend in the U.S. So, don’t be surprised if one pops up near you!
