Reusable Bag Design Contest

High school students encouraged to create artwork for farmers market bag

March 2, 2017

Chicago high school students who have a passion for art and local foods have a chance to showcase their creativity this spring. COUNTRY Financial and Chicago City Markets are encouraging students to submit a design for the market’s tenth annual reusable bag design contest.

The top design will earn the artist a scholarship and their artwork will grace hundreds of reusable bags to be given to shoppers during the market season.

Contest Instructions

The theme for 2017 is “Give, Grow and Be Green.” In order to be considered, artists must follow the theme and include the phrase “2017 Chicago City Markets” within their design. In addition, students are encouraged to include imagery familiar to the city and the marketplace such as fresh fruits, vegetables, flowers and more.

In turn, three finalists will be given a financial start to their future. The winning artist will receive a $1,000 scholarship and the first and second runners up will each receive a $500 scholarship. In addition, the first place winner will earn the prestige of having their artwork printed on hundreds of reusable bags. Contest winners will be announced Thurs., May 11, at Daley Plaza.
