Count on COUNTRY Financial Grant Program now open to applicants

Celebrating 10 years of serving Chicago

Oct. 3, 2017

COUNTRY Financial is back at it again – giving and investing more in our communities than ever before. Here in our tenth year of the Count on COUNTRY Financial Grant Program, we invite nonprofit organizations that align with our focus areas to apply for funding.

A history of giving

Since 2008, COUNTRY Financial has awarded $2 million to organizations that support our four pillars of concentration. Our primary missions include providing financial education, employment opportunities, homeownership and youth mentorship opportunities within the communities we serve.

How it’s working

One organization that has truly seen a transformation in Chicago is Project Money (PM) through the Center for Economic Progress (CEP). The program has been able to change the lives of many who previously felt hopeless.

Michelle for example had been struggling to make ends meet and was feeling uncertain about her future before coming to Project Money. She had taken on significant debt, felt her credit score was out of control and that she didn’t have any personal savings.

But Michelle applied to PM and was soon working with Amy, a volunteer financial coach and CEP Board Member. After laying out her finances and sharing her financial goals with Amy, the two created a plan to get Michelle on the right track.

After about three months in the program, Michelle was depositing three percent of her paychecks into a savings account and had opened an IRA where she was contributing three percent of her income. She had also learned about credit and had raised her FICO score by 43 points in that time period.

Since completing the program, Michelle has bought a vehicle and continues to use the benefits offered by her employer to improve her financial security. She now has the confidence and skills to determine her financial future.

“In my experience with Project Money, I’m convinced financial expertise along with a warm, nonjudgmental supportive relationship are the values that anchor their clients’ success,” said Michelle.

How to apply

Nonprofits in Chicago that have goals aligning to our four pillars are encouraged to apply. Applicants have until Tuesday, Oct. 31, at 5 p.m. CST to submit their grant requests.
