BLOOMINGTON - Youth golfers from the around the world travel to Bloomington, IL to participate in the 13th annual COUNTRY Youth Classic (CYC) June 23rd-25th.

COUNTRY Youth Classic is among the largest youth golfing events in the nation. This year, it welcomes competitors from South Africa, the Bahamas, Germany and ten U.S. states. Since the tournament’s inception, young golfers have traveled from more than 26 states and 14 countries.

The Classic is presented by the Bloomington-Normal Area Convention & Visitors Bureau and title sponsor COUNTRY Financial®. Both are proud to once again partner with the Special Olympics of Illinois for a Special Needs Division. The event is sanctioned by the American Junior Golfing Association (AJGA). In 2013, the tournament won the Outstanding Event by the National Association of Sports Commissions.

Garrick Higgo, age 14, is one of this year’s competitors from South Africa, and returns to CYC seeking a back-to-back win. Last year, Higgo took home the winning title in COUNTRY Youth Classic’s Boys 6B division, and earned a place among the all-time top scorers with an overall score of 152 on 18 holes (Par 72).

Higgo is joined by other international players, including Bruce Lee, age 14, from Cape Town, South Africa; Charlie Ward, age 7, from Herzogenaurach, Germany; and Taneka Sandiford, age 20, the first CYC player from the Bahamas.

Higgo, Sandiford, Lee and Ward all have one thing in common – they’re looking forward to meeting new people, enjoying the game and making memories.

Includes 24 divisions, a parent-child tourney, and a COUNTRY Financial Skills Challenge. The second annual celebrity skills challenge takes place June 23. The Classic has again teamed with the Pepsi Titan Little People’s Golf Competition in Quincy to crown a Grand Champion in the 6B, 6G, 7B, and 7G divisions based on overall score between the two tournaments.
