COUNTRY Financial Broadens Commitment to Local Farmers

March 24, 2010

COUNTRY Financial will forge a budding relationship with the Portland Farmers Market as a major sponsor of the 2010 season. COUNTRY will support all six Portland Farmers Market locations that operate throughout the city of Portland.

More than 250 vendors participate in the markets. During the height of the season, the Portland Farmers Market serves more than 25,000 shoppers every week.

Shoppers can purchase a host of locally-produced wares, including vegetables, fruit, plants, baked goods, cheese, meat and seafood. COUNTRY financial representatives will also be at the markets handing out giveaways and visiting with shoppers.

“This sponsorship is a perfect fit given our roots are in agriculture. We began 85 years ago providing insurance for farmers,” says Tim Harris, COUNTRY Oregon District Director of Agencies. “We are thrilled to support the markets, which represent a vibrant, local food system. We also look forward to meeting shoppers and vendors, and potentially helping them achieve financial security.”

“Portland Farmers Market is pleased to welcome COUNTRY Financial as a season sponsor,” says Ann Forsthoefel, executive director of the Portland Farmers Market. “COUNTRY is known for its support of local food economies and its agricultural roots. They are a great partner to support our efforts to operate vibrant marketplaces for our local farmers and food artisans.”
