Chicago Bag Design Contest
Congrats to Mather High School sophomore David Paredes! David created the winning design for the Country Financial and Chicago Farmers Markets reusable bag design contest. His artwork, depicting plants in various stages of growth in front of a city skyline, captured the spirit of local food in Chicago and incorporated this year's theme, "Grow your own way."
David received a $1,000 scholarship from Country Financial. Francesca Cedro, a junior at Lincoln Park High School, and Alejandro Gomez, a senior at Lincoln Park, were named runners-up. Each received a $500 scholarship.
The winner and runners-up were announced during at the official opening ceremonies of the Chicago Farmers Markets at the Daley Plaza Market on May 15. Shoppers can pick up this year’s limited edition reusable canvas bags at select events throughout the season.
“David’s artwork will be the symbol of this year’s Chicago Farmers Markets,” says Mike Fisher, Country Financial® Agency Field Executive, New Market Development. “His design captures the essence of the markets, local farmers growing locally-produced fruits and vegetables and then offering them up to market-goers.”
This is the seventh year COUNTRY Financial has sponsored the bag design contest. COUNTRY has awarded $14,000 in college scholarships to the winners and runners-up, all of whom are Chicago Public School high school students.
“It’s wonderful to see students showcasing their creativity and at the same time be so excited about the farmers markets,” says DCASE Commissioner Michelle T. Boone. “Congratulations David on your winning design.”
We hope to see you at the market this season!
