We’re talking about valuable real world experiences and real paychecks. You can make a difference at work and in your professional development with a COUNTRY internship.
We value you!
We value each employee, including our interns. You have the opportunity to contribute in a meaningful way, to achieve your potential and to fulfill your career goals in a professional and supportive environment. From planning the COUNTRY Youth Classic to integrating Six Sigma processes, our interns build solid work skills and achieve great accomplishments during their experience. You will work side-by-side with employees across departments, apply fundamentals you’ve learned in class, make a difference for others in the community by volunteering during IMPACT week and bring fresh ideas to contribute to the success of our organization.
Here's a Taste of What we Offer
Our intern program has great benefits that will help you secure your future career goals.
Our interns attend the annual kick-off to meet other interns and engage with the CEO of our organization. As a COUNTRY intern, you will get the chance to interact with managers, directors and top executives as part of our “Leadership Speaker Series.” Nothing takes the place of interacting and learning directly from our organization’s leaders.
You will have a mentor who is also in your division as a direct contact for questions and guidance throughout your internship. Managers and mentors are both available to assist you in gaining exposure to other departments or areas through job shadowing opportunities.
Compensation & Housing
Interns earn competitive pay and enjoy paid holidays alongside our full-time employees. Eligible interns also have the option to utilize the COUNTRY housing assistance program and receive a stipend for the rent expense paid by COUNTRY directly to the housing company.
Real Fun and Giving Back!
Program activities vary from year-to-year, but include intern fishbowl lunches and local community sporting events. Our interns compete in a case study competition for scholarships while developing project management, collaboration and problem solving skills. Each year our interns give back to the community by volunteering at places like Habitat for Humanity, Midwest Food Bank, Safe Harbor and most recently the Washington, Ill. tornado clean-up effort.
In Their Own Words
"I loved the family environment that COUNTRY embodies"
I loved the idea of working for a larger insurer and getting to work with customers all the time. I loved the family environment that COUNTRY embodies. COUNTRY empowers you to make the decisions without the constant need to always ask for approval. Meeting the needs of our customers is our #1 priority. I had the opportunity every day to be in contact with our customers and help them when they really needed our help.

"As an intern, my ideas and opinions are not only heard but also solicited"
I started my internship with COUNTRY Financial the summer after my freshman year of college. I’ve been welcomed into the organization and given countless opportunities to make a difference – for COUNTRY, our community and my career. As an intern, my ideas and opinions are not only heard but also solicited. I leave every day knowing that I’ve contributed to something bigger.
-Haley Fry, Internal Communications Intern | Marquette University
"Everyone at COUNTRY knows your name and is genuinely interested in your story"
COUNTRY Financial has all of the perks of working for a big company, but with a small family feel. Everyone at COUNTRY knows your name and is genuinely interested in your story. For me, the opportunity to do real work and contribute to the organization’s day to day operations is the most rewarding and best part about my internship. Many of the reports and projects I have worked on are in production and used by management every day. I would challenge any college student to find an experience or internship where they had that kind of opportunity at an organization as prestigious as COUNTRY!
-Alex DiVerde, Business Analyst Intern | Bradley University
"My internship has given me the opportunity to develop the skillsets I'll need..."
Whether you’ve worked here for 35 years or for 2 months, COUNTRY Financial really does value you as an employee. My internship has given me the opportunity to develop the skillsets I’ll need and not just my speed on making coffee-runs. My supervisor encourages my creative ideas and gives me constructive feedback that I can really learn from. Half of the time I forget that I’m an intern, because I’m treated just like a full-time employee.
-Analita Voss, Agency Recruiting Intern | Illinois State University
"COUNTRY Financial is a large organization with a small organization feel"
COUNTRY Financial is a large organization with a small organization feel. Through the internship program, I've been exposed to multiple areas of the organization and have been given hands-on work experience that I know will truly make a difference!
-Rea Ruplinger, Personal Lines Underwriting Intern | Illinois State University
"Interning at COUNTRY Financial gave me a sense of empowerment..."
From day one they plunged me into a current project and put me to work. It was great that not only did they recognize me at each career fair, but they remembered my skills and tied them to an opportunity. Even more astonishing was how spot on they were in placing me in the best position to accomplish the main goal of an internship, which is to learn. Much of what I’ve learned at COUNTRY Financial are transferable skills that will definitely help me no matter where I land in the future. Interning at COUNTRY Financial gave me a sense of empowerment in my work, chances to help the community, and people I’ll never forget.
-Walter Fisher, Brokerage Operation Intern | Illinois State University
"I've been able to make connections and establish relationships..."
Working with the high school Learning and Leading program during my internship has allowed me to make a difference in the students’ lives and in the community. The program reaches many areas at the Family of Companies, so I’ve been able to make connections and establish relationships with people from across the organization. I think the key element of my internship has been the mentoring and the guidance I have been provided! Thank you. The department my internship is in has heightened my skills and provided incredible insight that will guide me throughout my career path. The mentor I’ve been paired with is in the field I’m most interested in. The time and the initiative she has taken to share her expertise and discuss opportunities in my desired field have really been an added bonus! Thank you, everyone, for a wonderful learning experience.
-Alejandra Saldana, Diversity & Inclusion Intern | Aurora University
"What I do from day-to-day really does make an impact on the organization!"
Whether COUNTRY Financial is aware or not, they have built a fantastic reputation and a pipeline with the School of Communication at Illinois State University. I was attracted to this organization by word of mouth through previous graduate students that had gone through the internship program with COUNTRY. They only had positive experiences to share and I wanted to be a part of something positive, so I applied. Such a wonderful decision! I ended up in Corporate Learning and I couldn’t ask for a better group of amazing and talented individuals as coworkers, supervisors and managers. Since day one, I have felt like I am part of a big family at COUNTRY and that I’m not just an intern. What I do from day-to-day really does make an impact on the organization!
-Rachel Macon, Learning & Development Intern | Illinois State University
"My internship with COUNTRY has shown me that there's so much I can learn..."
When we’re young and first entering the business world, we can have a tendency to feel small. My internship with COUNTRY has shown me that there’s so much I can learn from the talented people I collaborate with, and that my contributions can truly mean something if I put forth the effort. Knowing that I’m a part of a company with down-to-earth, innovative leaders inspires me to drive change at work and in my own life every day.
-Hannah Dhue, Public Affairs Intern | Illinois Wesleyan University
"The intern events really forced me out of my bubble..."
I absolutely love the intern experience at COUNTRY. While other corporations would “shelve” their interns and give them menial tasks, COUNTRY puts us on real projects that no one currently in the organization has done anything with yet, they have me creating real configurations that are being used in the production environment. COUNTRY also provides us with an entire series of intern events throughout the summer, which I truly enjoyed. Being an IT person, I am usually bogged down in technical stuff, rarely getting a feel for other parts of the organization. The intern events really forced me out of my bubble, they had us network with other interns as well as full time employees from all parts of the organization, really allowing me to gain a holistic view of COUNTRY, as well as the insurance industry as a whole. It has been truly amazing with unforgettable experiences that I will be talking about for the rest of my life.
Joseph Spero, Security Infrastructure Intern | Illinois State University
"You come into work every day knowing you are improving and moving forward..."
COUNTRY has this amazing culture, as if the people around you want you to succeed in your life, not just your career. You come in to work every day knowing you are improving and moving forward, and the people around you encourage you to take steps towards your future. My manager knows that my current work placement is not my ideal position, and because of that tries to give me work related to my interests. He has also contacted other departments I may be interested in and encourages me to talk to people and branch out. That’s an amazing thing, knowing people are going out of their way to try and improve your work and your life. That’s the culture here at COUNTRY, a culture of support, and it is what makes me so passionate about the company.
-Matthew Del Fiacco, Information Architecture Intern | Illinois State University
"I was able to see tangible results from the work..."
COUNTRY really gave me quality job experience! Instead of being loaded up with busy work to do over the summer, I had the opportunity to work on a wide range of meaningful, challenging projects in my field that taught me a lot about the industry and my career. I was able to see tangible results from the work that I was doing and how it contributed to the operations of COUNTRY as a whole. I also feel that my coworkers genuinely cared about my growth and success; they were so inclusive and generous with their time in order to help me learn.
-Lindsay Okazaki, Actuary Intern | University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
