4 Good Reasons to Repair Instead of Replace Your Windshield

Repairing, rather than replacing, a damaged windshield can save you money, help control auto insurance costs, be safe and convenient, and benefit the environment.

As customer safety and satisfaction are important, repairs are recommended only when appropriate.  For example, if a break or crack is located in the driver's crucial viewing area, then the windshield should be replaced.  However, if the crack is located behind the rear view mirror in the passengers viewing area, it would be an appropriate repair. According to glass companies, with today's advanced technology, cracks up to 12 inches long can be repaired.  Regardless, you can still elect to replace a windshield instead of repair.

Good reasons to have your windshield repaired instead of replaced:

1.   Save Money

  • In most cases, COUNTRY® Financial will waive the deductible on your comprehensive coverage if your damaged windshield is repaired.
    • Most windshields can be repaired for a fraction of what it costs to replace the windshield
    • Keeps down claims costs and auto insurance payments.

2.   Control auto insurance costs

  • A few years ago, it cost about $250 to replace a windshield in the average American car.  Today, replacing the new “high tech” windshield is continually more expensive, often costing more than $1,000.  COUNTRY is taking steps to help avoid these skyrocketing costs by encouraging the repair of damaged windshields instead of replacement.

3.   Safety and convenience

  • The original seal remains intact, which helps prevent the possibility of leakage and keeps the car more structurally safe.
  • Usually fixed in approximately 30 minutes.
  • Oftentimes, a mobile glass unit can repair a windshield at a location you choose, including your own driveway.

4.   Windshield repair is environmentally smart

  • Most discarded windshields go to junkyards and landfills because they are too expensive to recycle, and it is estimated that it takes glass one million years to decompose

So, the next time you notice a small crack or chip in your windshield, ask me about getting your windshield repaired.
