The DigitaLab was created by COUNTRY Financial Technology to drive innovation and modernize technology. Our work now spans various IT fields, including software development, data science, and user experience and design.
What does DigitaLab offer?
The DigitaLab is an immersive data science and technology internship program developed in partnership with the University of Illinois. Our projects focus on:
- Creating new technology by working with AI, cloud computing and other tools.
- Merging classroom and real-world experience to put prototypes into production.
- Enhancing technical skills and growing soft skills needed for corporate environments.
- Working in cross-functional teams to learn with peers from all walks of life.

We aim to stay ahead by anticipating future client interactions, adapting and optimizing real world solutions, and continuously innovating through academic and industry partnerships.
Our location
Our lab is located in the Research Park of University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, which connects private industry with faculty researchers and students. The park has more than 120 resident companies, including leading corporations and deep-tech startups.

NICB Contact Matching Spring 2023 - The National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) provides data on individuals and entities that have been investigated for suspicious activity related to insurance fraud. NICB aims to use innovative, advanced analytics to identify NICB-investigated contacts on reported claims in our systems.
Underwriting Digest Spring 2024 - Replaced existing auto and property underwriting digest with a prototype that included a comparison of changes between initial state and issued state - providing more efficiency in obtaining transaction information and accuracy.
Generative AI Spring 2024 - The "Gen AI Coding Assistants" project was designed to evaluate and compare AI-based coding assistants, specifically GitLab AI and GitHub CoPilot, with a focus on their effectiveness, features, limitations, and suitability for developers in our organization.

AI Code Conversion Engine - The AI Code Conversion Engine accelerates application modernization by automatically transforming legacy code into modern, cloud-ready solutions. Through an intuitive web interface, users can submit code for analysis, validation and automated conversion while receiving supporting documentation and deployment-ready outputs. By reducing manual effort and increasing consistency, the platform helps organizations modernize faster, improve accuracy and streamline technology transformation initiatives.

Mock Data Service - The Mock Data Service improves application development and testing by enabling teams to work independently of live backend systems. When test data is available, the service provides realistic, simulated responses, allowing development, testing and demonstrations to proceed without external dependencies. If simulated data is unavailable, the service seamlessly retrieves information from connected systems, ensuring a flexible and efficient user experience.

AI Assisted Test Utilities for PDF/OCR/Email Validation - AI-Powered Document Validation automates the review of customer communications and business documents by combining content analysis, intelligent classification and visual verification.
