COUNTRY® Chef Challenge

2010 Master of the Market
A new master of the market was crowned at the 4th annual COUNTRY Chef Challenge Thursday, August 5 at Daley Plaza.
Ready, set, COOK!
Three chefs from diverse culinary backgrounds created unique dishes for a panel of celebrity judges. Chefs had 30 minutes to shop for farm-fresh ingredients in the market and 30 minutes to prepare simple, yet healthy winning entrées.
Chicago-native Chef Patrick Fahy of Blackbird Restaurant
clinched the Master of the Market title for his three delectable summer desserts - peach crepes, upside down plum cake and sweet corn panna cotta.
Ivan Yuen of Shanghai Terrace
in The Peninsula Chicago spiced up the competition with his traditional Chinese dishes. Yuen’s enticing ying and yang soup with scallion pancakes whisked away the judges for second place.
Placing third in the competition was Tony Priolo of Piccolo Sogno
with three hearty Italian inspired dishes - pasta alla norma, tomato-bread soup and a side of panzanella- tomato and bread salad.
Judges
Our panel of celebrity judges patiently awaited their chance to taste the savory, culinary confections first-hand. Judges rated dishes on creativity, taste and adaptability to re-creation in home kitchens. Food blogger for the Chicago Sun-Times, Janet Fuller
closed her laptop and picked up a fork for the afternoon. WLS-AM Radio personality and life-long Chicagoan, Roe Conn
, got a taste of home-town cooking with a spot on the judge’s panel. Matt Maroni, owner of Gaztro-Wagon
and avid supporter of the Chicago food truck movement, revved up his taste buds for the tasty dishes.
Our Master of Ceremonies, CBS 2 meteorologist and Chicago Farmers Market fanatic, Steve Baskerville
captured the Daley Plaza crowd with Farmers Market trivia entertaining commentary.
